I have usually seen the use of environment modules to handle the abstraction of setting up various tools in HPC clusters.

Environment modules is not powerful enough. pyEDAA.ToolSetup is just one peace of many in the EDA² stackup.

As an example you need to find tool installations, modify environment variables, but also setup licenses or modify configuration files on disk.
