To get started with Blacklight, first install Ruby and install Rails, if you don't have it installed already. You'll need Ruby 2.1 or higher, and Rails 3.2 or higher.

If you are installing/developing on Linux, you will also need a JavaScript runtime installed, e.g. nodejs.

Got Ruby?

You should have Ruby 2.1 or greater installed.

$ ruby --version
  ruby 2.3.0p0 (2015-12-25 revision 53290) [x86_64-darwin14]

Got Rails?

Blacklight works with Rails 4.2 and Rails 5.x, although we strongly encourage you to use Rails 5.
