I can't connect to Zwift

Hi. I got my SmartSpin 2k up and running! Awesome! I had a hard time getting it to connect to Zwift initially. I got frustrated and gave it a could days. I came back to it and it worked and I had a fabulous ride!

Now I can't get it to connect again. Would you please help me with instructions to get the latest firmware? Thanks so much!

So, connecting to Zwift should be pretty straightforward. The only issues typically are if another app is connecting to the SmartSpin2k before Zwift.

If you'd like to load the newest firmware, I'd recommend using the SmartSpin2k Flasher and then using this firmware to upload

Or by following the instructions in the second section in the Wiki here: Flashing with SmartSpin2K Flasher (First time installations or for troubleshooting)

Please let me know if you have any other issues or need more help and also update this discussion with the fix when you get it resolved.

I would try a different USB port (preferably plugged into a USB hub of some type), or a different cable.

It looks to me like your spiffs.bin is probably full. Try powering it on while holding both shifter buttons. This should reset it to defaults (which re-formats the spiffs).

Normally Spiffs gets corrupted/full by uploading a file to the unit via the web interface that's not named exactly firmware.bin but that doesn't mean somthing else isn't going on here.

Also, you could try manually selecting com23 in the drop down menu.

Yeah I have to manually select it every time.

I think something is wrong with the ESP32. I can see the bluetooth on my computer, but if I try to connect to it, it, does for a second and then disconnects. I think this might be the 3% you talk about in your video. Like I said, it did give me one amazing ride, but now it's jacked. ;(

Were you able to upload Firmware?
SS2K must be able to write the config file otherwise the settings are not stored.

If you can write to the config, add your power meter.
Your power meter should not be connected to any other device.
In the debug window you should now see Cadence and Power data.

Now you can connect to zwift.
First select SS2k as source for power meter, then Cadence and then smart trainer.

If SS2k is not recognized by zwift, try the zwift companion app.
Important is that you not connect SS2k or you Power Meter directly via BLE let Zwift find your devices.

What exactly did not work.
a) You can not select SS2k as Power Meter / Cadence / Smart Trainer?
b) SS2k is connected but ERG Mode is not working?

To answer your last question, "a," I cannot even see the SS2k in Zwift when I search for controllable bluetooth trainers. Again, the SS2k connected once and I had a successful ride, but has not connected again. Initially I was able to upload the firmware, but when trying to patch or reload the firmware since I've had the connection issue, I receive the above error. I forgot to mention that the blue LED on the SS2k flashes continuously.

To add some clarification, I use a crank arm power meter for Zwift that is an ANT+ device. I have an ANT+ receiver that plugs into my computer via USB. The Companion app is also unable to connect via bluetooth. My phone and computer can see the SS2k under bluetooth devices when I search for it that way, but I understand this is not the way to connect.

You can then disconnect SS2k as HR Device 😉.

BINGO!! @MarkusSchneider going to HR monitor in Zwift did the trick! I was able to find SmartSpin 2k as a controllable trainer option. Thank you all for your help. Ride on!

Glad it finally working for you 👍. I changed my setup and used SS2k as Power Meter. Since this change SS2k is found as controllable trainer.

This is interesting! I didn't know I could use the ANT+ meter in this manner. Might have some value for me since I'm in a rather noisy bluetooth environment... I'm in a densely packed condo building and have something like 20 devices in bluetooth range of my bike. Will keep an eye out for an ANT+ USB adapter for my HTPC.

@eMadman I'm using Assioma Duo pedals. Thy support two protocols (ANT+ and BLE). I've connected the pedals via BLE with SS2k and via ANT+ with Zwift. I'm using a cheap ANT+USB Dongle on my PC, also connecting HR-Belt via ANT+.
The communication via ANT+ seams to be slightly faster with Zwift and even if the connection to SS2k is not stable, power data will be sent to Zwift.
Disadvantage is that you have to do the connect / disconnect HR-Monitor trick with SS2k.
