A patched VSCode version that doesn't need to be altered at runtime

Would it be possible to have a single patch for VSC built / source data such that the extension wouldn't need write permissions? I'd like to use this theme on a mostly immutable system, so if it was possible patch VSCode not to need to write wallpapers/stickers to FS would be nice.

Just NixOS things, but also could possibly be distributable on snap too? Though I'm not sure about VSC licensing regarding this.
