a mechanism for passing driver / component metadata (i.e. constant attributes)
instrumental uncertainties (from instrument precision data)
measurement length estimation for scheduling purposes
Task validation mechanism (valid & complete entries, within device limits)
support for input/output using pint.Quantity()
