used broadcom sta wl.o driver for nic, cannot get it onto my wireless network with wpa_supplicant

i use gentoo.  this is a purely networking problem.

wpa_supplicant.conf:
"ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant 
ctrl_interface_group=0 
update_config=1 

network={ 
        ssid="mynetworkname" 
        psk="mypassword" 
        priority=2 
        disabled=1 
}"

/etc/conf.d/net
"modules=("wpa_supplicant") 
wpa_supplicant_eth1="-Dwext" 
"

lspci -k shows driver wl.0 as being used for the NIC

i cannot ping my router or google, etc
