Would this tick in background?

I was wondering would this timer work while the app is in the background
I would like to perform some Task while tha app is in the background and when this timer ticks

I'm afraid I don't have a clear answer. I think it depends on the platform, and on the permissions/entitlements that your app has.

As @d-m-wilson mentioned it depends on the platform.

iOS operating system kills unfocused apps after 3 minutes.
I am not sure about Android but I know that kernel kills apps according to free system space.

The best way to achieve something like this is to use Local Notifications and/or silent push.
