Optimisation: To lower the gas needed on settelment the virtual settelment price could be pushed on-chain

I don't know how this is done now, but I guess that on settlement all bids are sorted, even if they will end far below the future settlement price.

(In a way this also shows why sorting on tx is a good thing. bids pay for the sorting on the go)

If we write the virtual settlement price on-chain we could just ignore this bids and not even sort them.

Drawback:

This may be very risky and needs trust and is non-decentralized.
