It's back up, with thanks to @tuurma for much-needed advice when things looked grim.
One thing is that, while I can browse the SIS on chromium, chrome, older firefox (~59), I am not able to follow links from the page aliased at clarin.eu on newer firefoxes (88+). If, on those newer foxes, I start from the native address (https://clarin.ids-mannheim.de/standards/ ) then everything is nice and smooth.
Not sure if I should leave this ticket open under a changed title, referencing firefox.
