System

  • Operating System (including version): any
  • Desktop Tool Version: v4.5.2
  • Browser (including version): any

Affected Components

  • Backend
  • Frontend
  • Desktop Tool

Description

I know the main point of this site/tool is for uploading to professional printing services, but I print all of my cards myself and this project has been invaluable for that. I've printed several full decks at this point and it's always painfully slow; the tool is simultaneously downloading and uploading dozens of high-res images, and my internet isn't very good to begin with.

It would be nice if there was a "none" option in the site selection step of the desktop tool to skip the autofill part, and just download the card images from the .xml list. While an extremely niche use-case, I presume this would be a rather simple addition to the existing options.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Run the desktop tool on an .xml list
  • When asked "Which site should the tool auto-fill your project into?" offer an option for "none (download only)"
  • Skip other inputs regarding accounts and projects (but still ask about post-processing)
  • Download the images to the \cards directory as normal
  • Display a Finished message or close the program when all files are downloaded

Howdy - glad to hear you're finding the tool useful and thanks for the thread!

We actually used to have this feature in the desktop tool ~4 years ago, but I replaced it with image download functionality in the frontend. I wanted to avoid confusing users and thought the frontend was a more logical place for this. Upload your XML file, select all images, then click Download Images, e.g.:
image

Does this meet your use case?

While I have used that feature before, my main problem with it is that my browser asks me where to save each individual file. I would prefer to use the desktop tool when I'm printing entire decks of 100+ cards.

If an older version of the tool with that feature still works I'll try it instead, do you know the latest version that would?
