Make forum appear more friendly, less intimidating
A way to add more granular, multi-dimensional feedback than one-dimensional karma, without the overhead of writing a whole new comment which uses more space than the value it adds. Dimensions that could be represented include: humour, skepticism, (un)kindness, (ir)relevance, agree with the conclusion, like the argument, scout mindest, clarity of communication, making predictions, using a summary, etc. (There are probably community-adjacent discord servers who have found a nice selection of emoji reactions which encourage good discourse norms.)
Foreseen problems:
Some may not like the aesthetic, so it should be possible to toggle off emoji in user settings
Maybe the forum isn't intended to be too friendly / informal?
Visual overwhelm when too many emoji are on a comment. Limit number of reactions per user per comment, and limit available emoji
