Describe the bug

When zombie corpses rot away, they can rarely leave behind zombie pheromone. Since the pheromone item is described as a ball of rotting meat, it probably shouldn't survive the decomposition of the body.

Steps To Reproduce

  1. kill a large number of zombies
  2. smash the bodies to prevent revival
  3. wait a long time until the bodies rot away
  4. there is pheromone on the ground

Additional context

Probably related to #4751
I guess the only actual problem is that the pheromone clumps don't decompose, despite being made of zombie matter, so they're left behind when the rest of the body rots.

Same thing happened on my save. But I don't think it's a bug though?

Appearently after zombies are dead for about a week they start to decompose and leave behind their bones and sometimes a few things that you would get from butchering them, so it's all working as intended

Unless you mean that the zombie pheromone should decompose instead of being left there. The problem is that it doesn't have any attributes that set it as perishable so it remains there indefinitely after spawning

We'd have to set pheromones to count as comestibles, yeah. That said, given they're utterly useless once depleted since it's considered a tool, it would indeed 100% make sense to convert it to a comestible anyway so it'll be actually consumed when used.

If I were the one to tackle it, I'd also be tempted to set phermone drops to count as an organ/offal instead of a dissection yield, making it less of a pain in the dick to extract a bundle of goopy zombie guts. Would reduce the amount of false hopes and broken dreams caused by players dissecting corpses fishing for bionics, only to discover that all those "you found a something in the corpse but failed to extract it" messages were caused by pheromone balls.
