DeFi.WTF Community Participation

1. "A DeFi Billboard" Harberger Taxes Social Experiment: https://defi.wtf/#/billboard

  • This is the only place you’ll see logos, REALLY LOUD LOGOS. We are creating “A DeFi Billboard” specifically to take shilling off the serious discussions.
  • “A DeFi Billboard” is both physical and virtual: We will conduct a continuous auction for 5 display slots on www.Defi.wtf with a Harberger Tax mechanism. In a Harberger Taxation model, the buyer/advertiser sets the price, then the next buyer accepts the price, and pays a tax until he/she is bought out by another buyer, or he stops paying taxes. The tax goes to the event’s ENS address: defiwtf.eth. The proceeds will go into funding the event and funding research that comes out of the event.

2. Donation to Community ENS: defiwtf.eth

  • If you love what we’re doing and want to help make it a success, consider donating! As an OG supporter, you’ll instantly enter the WTF events’ hall of fame.
  • You can include a 140-word message about why you’re donating or anything you want to say to the DeFi community, and your name and comment will be displayed on community website (www.DeFi.WTF), Twitter (@wtfdao), and at the event.

3. Stay Tuned

Hey guys, great idea and event!

The Trustlines Protocol team would love to give a quick talk in track 6: "Using a minimal viable side-chain design to scale a DEFI project - Trustlines Protocol". It could be a talking point for an alternative besides Ethereum and other Layer 1 solutions. What do you think, would there still be time to squeeze that in?

Apply for giving a talk: Improving the User Experience of DEX

Dear Jie, thank you for your interest and your proposal. Great topic indeed!
What I would suggest is to follow the "Propose" format specified above:

  • Name (or preferred alias), a one-line intro of yourself.
  • Proposed Topic, and a one-line intro explaining the topic.
  • An abstract, or link to a deck (optional)
  • Twitter handle (optional)

We will have a voting period later next week for the community to use Quadratic Voting to decide on additional proposals to be included at the event.

Dear Trustline team, thank you for your interest and your proposal. While scalability is crucial for most blockchain applications, scalability may not be the highest on the priority list for DeFi microcosm (at least for now). However, we are interested the fundamental research and design philosophy behind Trustline, and may we propose later a topic we believe the community can benefit the most from Trustiline team?

In addition, we are reshuffling the agenda at the moment to see if we will have more of a focus on risk framework, or usibility (mass adoption), and will have a voting period later next week to use Quadratic Voting to decide on additional proposals to be included at the event, stay tuned!

happy to give a talk about open source communities or open sou8rce sustainability

Thanks Kevin, you may be interested in two of the experiments our community is taking on, thanks to hacker Minako Kojima's help!

1. "A DeFi Billboard"

as a social experiment using Harberger Tax for pricing the 10 Advertisement spaces on a neon sign "DeFi Billboard". The proceeds of the billboard will go into funding the event, as well as the funding continued research that comes out of the event.
"DeFi" as a term and a meme originated last year as a marketing alliance for a few early projects in the space to help the public understand their work, not individually but collectively as a whole. It started with a DeFi summit, and a website, and a telegram chat group. Over a year now, the meme took off to the point it became a hype word that everyone says but no one understands. The website is left unmaintained, and many new members of the community has raised questions as to why has there not been a community driven effort in keep it updated. And the DeFi chat channel has ballooned into a purely advertisement chat of over 3000 members. We no longer have the meaningful constructive discussion that comes out of the channel, in fact we all broke into out little groups (in China we have a group of over 300) to engage in more meaningful discussion.
And this is the inspiration for our social experiment "A DeFi Billboard": create a market-driven Billboard, so take the salesman pitch off the serious discussions. "A DeFi Billboard" is both physical and virtual: we will have a Physical retro-style neon billboard at the venue for the event for the winning logos, and a banner on DeFi.WTF website (expected launch by this Sunday, Sep 22). We may consider pooling re-twit and Wechat moments from DeFi and crypto influencers across different regions who are interested in taking part in this social experiment. The proceeds from before the launch of the event goes into event planning, the proceeds from after the event will go into funding continued research.
Currently we are still in designing phase, will try to hack out a prototype in 1 week!! Welcome comments and help!

2. Quadratic Voting

See RadicalXChange Matt Prewitt's issue: Interoperable Quadratic Voting Tool #64
Our community is hacking a QV tool for voting what to include in agenda, and later, on potentially what research direction to fund in the future.

Thank you, yes, this works as well! We can go more into the philosophical/economics aspects of mutual credit networks or even in the usability direction (i.e. why and for whom it could make sense to use mutual credit as an on-boarding method or as a complementary currency). Hey Guys,

Bowen from Margin.ddex.io. I would like to give a talk on 8. DeFi beyond Ethereum.

We are beta launching a DeFi Margin& Lending product, 5x Long/Short Ethereum, Borrow & Lending ETH/USDT/DAI. Margin.ddex.io.

We would love to show our internal debate about what a developer needs if they are migrating from Ethereum to another blockchain. Weather Public chain should tailor for DeFi need or Public chain just need to be EVM compatible?

What kind of scenario works best on Ethereum? What kind of scenario needs high TPS, low finality Chain? How do we rebuild DeFi BitMex with 100x leverage?

Hey @CarboClanC any update on the idea of discussing Trustlines and mutual credit at DeFi WTF?

It's a relatively unexplored topic on the agenda AFAIK (and obviously very interesting :-). We'd be happy to pitch in wherever works best, but we'd need to do some coordination on our part to make sure we can deliver in time. Feel free to write me on telegram @krisnaer if it's more convenient for you.

I propose a topic about mutual credit AFAIK it's a largely unexplored topic on the current agenda and proposes to tackle many of the same problems DeFI as a whole identifies such as

  • Permissionless access to credit
  • Credit creation that doesn't require over-collateralization
  • Informal economies
  • UBI
  • Identity
    amongst others.

Name (or preferred alias), a one-line intro of yourself.

Trustlines Network - Permissionless Mutual Credit

Proposed Topic, and a one-line intro explaining the topic.

People powered money - mutual credit blockchain-based credit that can be issued and used without a bank account, government issued ID or prefunded cryptowallet

An abstract, or link to a deck (optional)

Trustlines is bringing a mobile app that you can try the people-powered money use case with. All you need is a friend who trusts you with a beer to get started. Get beer credit on the app which is connected to the beer currency network in Osaka. Use your beer credit to pay strangers by making a multihop payment. Expand the beer network by creating more Trustlines or use it to pay for beers throughout Devcon with other users.

Twitter handle (optional

twitter.com/knaerland

My knowledge is specifically within Trustlines and so that is what I would cover. It currently tackles the first three points I listed but is currently not focused on UBI or identity although this is possible if people are interesting in working on these use-cases with the Trustlines Protocol. I'm very open to discuss alternatives or do a panel if there are others who are working on the same thing.

More and more DeFi products have been developed. On the premise that the current infrastructure is fragile, these products will encounter more significant liquidity challenges than centralized products. This talk compares the synchronous (MMORPG) and asynchronous (Single Player Game) liquidity models and presents a framework for the combination of on-chain and off-chain liquidity, which can be widely applied to DeFi products.

Hey Guys,

We would like to make some DeFi.WTF tokens for the event, and write a TokenScript file for it.
Each audience can get 1 DeFi.WTF token, with some functions enabled by TokenScript:

  1. it serves as a "membership" identifier for any other services to be built on top of it.
  2. we can provide some basic services like
  • one button claim some DeFi tokens(cDai, iDAi, Dai and etc.)
  • one button to open up event agenda
You can update the TokenScript file any time to update or add in new features.

Something similar like this:

We should have a topic about payment DvP (not transfer, Delivery versus payment).
I can talk about "how to extend crypto payment beyond DeFi"

All the DeFi contracts can be considered as merchants, users pay crypto and get some right or other cryptos in return. The whole process is a DvP without centralized trusted 3rd parties. This not only reduced market friction and counterparty risks but also makes the atomic transaction between different DeFi contracts possible. How to extend these benefit to other services beyond DeFi, the key is to tokenised the D(Delivery).

Payment is like a bridge to connect DeFi with the real economy.
