Are there any plans to replace ws4py since it is not really maintained anymore see https://github.com/Lawouach/WebSocket-for-Python

I found https://github.com/aaugustin/websockets or maybe https://www.starlette.io/websockets/ which seem like modern implementations

If there is any interest and nobody else tackling this i would try it.
