We are merging what we're calling Phase 1 of the Metrics UI work in PR #388. There are multiple follow-up issues that we need to complete for Phase 2 which are outlined below (feel free to break these into separate issues.

  • Display empty states at the page or section level depending on the empty state. An empty state per chart might still be needed.

  • If no topics exist yet, then display a Create Topic button to the Empty State for the topic section that links to the Create Topic page in the Data Plane UI.

  • Change the unit of measure from decimal/metric to binary - see more information in this comment.

  • Add a toolbar per section with the ability to filter data by topics and specify a time range

  • Update the Topic partition size chart and show it in the dashboard

  • Follow up with this JIRA that I created for a dev to add the Used Space Limit as an endpoint

  • Follow up with this JIRA for adding the Metric for Byte rate rather than Byte count.

Designs are in this deck

Thanks for creating this, @christiemolloy! I updated this item that you originally captured:

  • Add a Create Topic button to the Empty State for Byte Rate that links to the Create Topic page in the Data Plane UI. We might not want to just have "Create Topic" but instead "Add messages" if the user already has created a Topic.

Since we're switching this empty state to show at the topic section level, I noted that, and updated the example to match the message that Abi provided. I also moved the section-level empty state item to be before this item (I assumed these are in a relative order).

Also, I don't think we can have an action that says "Add messages", but maybe a quick start would be handy to have here?
