One problem in many discussions on mailing lists is that you basically need to read the whole discussion to understand the important results. This can be very time consuming and makes it difficult to use the discussion as a reference if the underlying questions are asked again later.

So I think it would be very helpful to have a built in feature to summarize the results of a discussion. It might take some time to refine the summary so it must be changeable. People need to be able to give feedback and in the end should be able to express their support of the summary in the current form.

Thanks Christian, makes a lot of sense!

Adding a "summarize previous discussions" use case expose the needs for permanent URLs that point to specific parts of those prior discussions which is good. And a summarized discussion should be tagged as "summarized" with a link to the summary, which is another use case for the Categorize Content requirement.
