This approach is similar to what was developed during the hackathon with a couple key differences. The hackathon focused on using a weather forecast to buffer out active segments of a fire perimeter according to the wind direction and wind speed. These acceptance criteria do not use a weather forecast and instead buffer out active segments of a fire perimeter to a specified distance (25 km). The heuristic for determining what segments of a fire perimeter are active are also different. I recall the hackathon work used hotspots from the past week (or few days). These acceptance criteria would use all hotspots from the last month of the fire season. Finally, the hackathon was focused on what could be impacted by fire in the next 5 to 10 days. These acceptance criteria are focused on what could be impacted if there are 2024 holdover fires that continue to spread in the spring of 2025.
