If no location is given we shall use the location from the surface extrema.

Where to provide this information? It is an attribute of the surface; but the default won't be available till we bind the compiled surface to a mesh -- unless we run scipy to minimize it which may be an overkill.

fixed. If center of the feature is given in the chain.

Otherwise it won't make a cross hair. This still need to be improved.
