Functional Components

The recent versions of React have introduced a lot of welcoming changes. Funciaonal components being one of the biggest changes do bring plenty of benefits with a simplified mental model. Do we have any plans to migrate the project to functional components and if so is there a rough timeline. Thanks!

Yes there is a plan, but no timeline.
There is a delay between some of our internal changes and synchronization with the open-source. I am working to improve this and will try to put together a better roadmap and plan so we can more easily enable contributions. Sorry for lack of transparency on this.

Totally understandable. You are absolutely right about empowering other contributors. It will be much easier for people to help if we move to a modern functional component base layer. Projects out there using this library are mostly upgraded to React 17 or later already.
