For sharing a large amounts of data from Keeling with an outside collaborator.
Here are some notes from the Slack channel from David:
The ability to using the sharing function is endpoint specific. Either the endpoint is subscribed to the paid service or it isn't. I'd hope that NCAR would have a subscription. Or it could also work if the NASA end has a subscription (in which case they share an empty folder writeable to you) and you push to them from NCAR. Also we can provide a sizeable scratch space on keeling if needed for temporary hosting of the data to transfer if needed.
But supposing that either NCAR has a subscription or you already have the data on keeling (or at NCSA for example), or for the interest of others who do. Here's how you'd do it.
Ensure what you want to share is all under some folder which doesn't also contain things that you don't want to or shouldn't share.
Log into Globus, connect to the collection/endpoint with the data and navigate into the folder above the folder you want to share.
Right click on the folder to share and select Share
On the next page that opens, click "Add Guest Collection" in the upper right
Fill in any descriptive info and click Create Collection
Once created, you can go to the permissions tab (open by default) and decide who to share it with.
Click the Add permissions button in the upper right.
The "Path" mentioned on the add screen is relative to the share, not the system, so the default of / means the top of the folder you shared.
Select the type of permission you want and when entering email addresses, make sure you use whatever email address the other users use when the connect to Globus.
Add the permission and you're done.
It's a good idea to later remove any no longer needed guest collections when they become so.
