Ricardo Pizarro is a Postdoctoral fellow at the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) working with Amir Shmuel and currently being funded by the Healthy Brains for Healthy Lives (HBHL) program.
Ricardo is completing a project looking to use deep learning algorithms for artifact detection in MRI. This project was part of a two-year Mitacs Elevate fellowship where Ricardo collaborated with NeuroRx Research and Amir Shmuel at the MNI. In addition, during this period Ricardo developed a deep learning algorithm for MRI modality detection, the paper was just published this year in Neuroinformatics
Ricardo decided to organize this reading group with Arna to create a group at the MNI where we can bring people together that want to be involved in the discussion of the symbiotic relationship between deep learning and neuroscience. It seems that at the MNI there are several scientists using machine learning and/or deep learning to advance neuroscience. However, we are all scattered around and do not have a central place where we can learn from each other. MNI investigators take pride in collaboration, so let's foster this sentiment inside our group and see how much trouble we can make!
