Have you read the PROTOCOL.md file?
There is TLS support since AFTP version 1.1.
The thing is when its going to be implemented.
There is nothing implemented yet lol. Feel free to contribute.

I could create a server in perl that uses TLS but i'm lazy to do it in C, OpenSSL could have a better API.

Yes, it could, indeed.
I guess you will have to wait until I write the basic implementation to then implement the TLS stuff with OpenSSL.
