Fwiw, we will have a dedicated site where folks can submit captures (see https://github.com/alveusgg/census), and will then have a process in place for deduplicating and IDing them on our end first before we think about exporting them to a third-party like iNaturalist (both because we don't want to overwhelm INaturalist with dupes + bad captures, but also because we need to think about what we can export to them without revealing Alveus' location publicly). |

Hi!
I was thinking about how the pollinator garden capture would work, and figured I'd throw my thoughts here to maybe be helpful / see what other people are thinking. LMK! :)
Where - iNaturalist
I think this census would be the perfect use for iNaturalist Projects.
Photos can be uploaded via their API for free and then set to a "needs ID" status, where the community can ID the pollinators that come through.

How - Extension Addition
What - Another Button
Another extension button, labeled "Pollinator Capture," that captures the stream window and POSTs it to an endpoint.
How - Cloud / Non-Cloud API Midpoint between extension and iNaturalist
Front-end
Back-end
Notes on the page could include the user who submitted and a link to the VOD with a timestamp.
Why
I think having users be able to submit pictures directly through the extension rather than via the iNaturalist page itself means more frequent submissions and less barrier to entry. The chatters who are dedicated enough to create a login to iNaturalist can help with ID'ing the pollinators.
Thoughts?
Thanks y'all,
August
