Only NCBITAXON uses this in AgroPortal has this property was populated originally only for/from resources that would come from UMLS (and extracted thru the UMLS2RDF tool) and would systematically have a semantic type (provided when the ressource is included in UMLS a associated to a CUI).
The fact that this property is in core metadata model for all terms offer the possibility to tag ALL the terms in AgroPortal with a certain high level "semantic network" similar to the UMLS Semantic Network.
The good approach would even be to scientifically "extend" the UMLS SN (128 types I think): https://www.nlm.nih.gov/research/umls/META3_current_semantic_types.html
Then load this extension in AgroPortal and have mechanism within the portal to help tagging the terms...
(in theory this should happen in VocBench or Protégé, not AgroPortal, as we do not do editing).
Eventually, once this semantic type information added to all the classes (or enough) we coud start using them in the portal ... like what the Annotator does (only) for the moment. Services/functions serving terms would then be completed by a filtering mechanisms that would always keep only the terms with a certain semantic types.

This discussion is about leveraging the "semanticType" property that we have overall for ALL terms in AgroPortal (inherited from BioPortal):
Empty:
E;g. https://data.agroportal.lirmm.fr/ontologies/AGRO/classes/http%3A%2F%2Fpurl.obolibrary.org%2Fobo%2FTO_0000064

In Alexandre's intern (subject described here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vQ_-S-ZktGjrYOqX3Gua_rcNDM9hTK2C9bYNyssiFIrMyetlWDub8GLz8NGU-pR1apPFHndFkZ8RWXM/pub)
We have tried a ML approach to do the semantic type enrichment with partial success.
