I would suggest to keep the invalid certificates visible. But they should be marked as Invalid (e.g with red color) and as soon as the Certificate expires, the User should be Notified!
Expired, revoked or otherwise invalid certificates are greyed out, accompanied by an appropriate icon and message in the box below the name and date of birth.
should automatically be hidden by putting them in a separate place
They should not appear on the start page
Automatically removing or reordering (e.g. by moving old certs to the back) can also be confusing. The real world equivalent would be "I'm sure I left my car keys on the table, but now they're suddenly gone?".
I do agree, some sort of "archive" would be nice to keep the start page clean but the certs still around. Similar to the "archive" feature in major chat apps, you could manually (un)archive certificates. I'll take the liberty and edit the issue title.
Expired or revoked certificated should automatically be hidden by putting them in a separate place.
