wmctrl does not output all applications on wayland: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1725991

Not sure what to do about that

There is a javascript api accessible via DBus accoding to SO https://stackoverflow.com/questions/45465016/how-do-i-get-the-active-window-on-gnome-wayland#45758620
