I commented out the "import gi" line in Timer.py, and it seems to have resolved the issue

@morneode what's your OS/DE? I never had issues on Linux Mint with Mate, but I migrated to Cinnamon now and got annoyed with the fact I'm not able to stop the repeated ping by clicking the notification it shows.
