invalid client config files lead to unfriendly errors and broken functionality

Issue:

When config options for the IRC log files are invalid, the main console window fills up with "file not found"

Since this can have many causes, and is not indicitive of exactly what file was not found, it is not user-friendly.
As a direct result of the file not found messages, loading of data from the API does not seem to occur, completely breaking functionality of the program

Expected behaviour

A friendly file {file} was not found, is the config correct? or a pop-up box prompting the user to insert the correct path.
Further, these errors should not break API dependent functions.
