[FEATURE] Appearance Ideas #220
Comments
Hi @aya-binish, thanks so much for your feedback! It would be super helpful if you could break this down into multiple issues with smaller feature requests. That way, we can easily track each feature. Also, please double-check to make sure there aren’t any duplicates with previous issues. That way, we can keep track of everything better. |
The only issue I do have with boring notch would be the that thumbnails from browsers look low quality on the notch. Everything else would just be suggestions. I don't believe that there are any duplicates for that one issue and here is a shorter summary for feature requests: New animations could indicate connected accessories or make the notch wider. More apps could work with the notch, and an indicator for microphone, camera, or focus mode could be added. The notch could also be rounded for a more sophisticated look. An animation for music/media playback could extend the notch and bounce it back to its normal size. MediaMate offers keyboard shortcuts for forwarding songs (a minor update could include this). It also allows changing keyboard brightness, volume, and screen brightness, making the Mac look more sophisticated. If these changes are made, the bezel could stick out like iPhones with iOS 18 when pressing physical buttons. MediaMate also allows changing volume or brightness on accessories with their image (e.g., AirPods, headphones, external and internal displays). Finally, users can customize the notch’s appearance(check the link below). Here are some more details about MediaMate: |
BoringNotch is really good, making the useless notch on the MacBook more like the Dynamic Island that replaced the notch starting with the iPhone 14 Pro models. For a free download, BoringNotch is almost flawless, but anything can be improved. BoringNotch could include some new animations like an indicator when Apple(or other) accessories are connected(Thanks fastnlight0!) or making the notch have animations more wide. Maybe incorporate more apps to work with the notch or make an indicator for when you are using the microphone, camera, or if you are in focus mode. You can also make the notch more rounded to make it more sophisticated looking. Also, you could incorporated an animation for when you start playing music/media, the notch extend wider and then bounce to the normal size that is already there. MediaMate
has the option to forward songs using keyboard shortcuts(can be included in a minor update) , but they also have the option to change keyboard brightness, volume, and screen brightness which can make the mac look way more sophisticated than it already is. If that ever does happen, you could make it so that if you change any of those things, the bezel sticks out a bit just like iPhones with iOS 18 do when you press the [physical] buttons. MediaMate also has the option to change the volume or brightness on accessories with their image on it(AirPods,Headphones, External and Internal Displays). MediaMate also has an option to customize how your Notch looks, so you can choose how you want to see it. Heres some more on MediaMate specs.
