Portal :: Testing framework migrating from Jasmine to Jest

Context

• Sunbird portal (Angular application) was using Jasmine testing framework until release-4.9.0
• During Portal Angular migration from Angular version 9 to version 10, jasmine was not compatible with upgradation process
  • Due to legacy codebase (Spec blocks) upgrading Jasmine version was not feasible, as we had to re write complete unit test cases across portal codebase due to massive change in syntax in latest version of Jasmine
  • Error stack for Jasmine when suite is executed in portal Spec Logs
  • This process was barrier for Angular upgradation from version 9 to 10
• Portal team had discussion with other peer teams to understand this process
• As Sunbird Ed mobile team repo had already used Jest, we opted to use Jest as the testing framework
• We had to come to understand that Jest is light weight and more compatible with higher versions of Angular
• Sunbird Portal is using Jest from release-4.9.1
