The Aztec Code is a 2d matrix barcode invented by Andrew Longacre, Jr. and Robert Hussey. The code was published by AIM in 1997. The Aztec Code is patented, but the patent was officially made public domain.

The 2nd edition of the Aztec Code bar code symbology specification was published this year, see: ISO/IEC 24778:2024
