Users are frequently having trouble configuring their Zen node to form enough contracts for use. It can often be frustrating to figure out why and get it to work.
Nodes on Zen should be able to function with minimal (initial) configuration. Since Zen uses paper money, I think it should be fine to increase the default pricing by a lot.

Is it the pricing that is causing the issues for you? In theory the pricing on Mainnet and Zen should be quite similar and we are trying to make updating those prices very easy via recommendations.
I'm asking because we are hesitant to ship renterd with very high settings for Zen because Zen is meant to be a reflection of the mainnet to make sure the experience is the same. If we set high pricing for Zen by default, we are just ending up not testing that the price settings work and testing is really what Zen is for. Not just for app developers to test their applications but also for us to make sure renterd is working as expected.
I just created a fresh node. I eventually ended up with 3 contracts with only touching these settings. Allowance was configured based on default prices.
Only after waiting some time longer, price suggestions started popping up.
I'm not sure if it's "just" the pricing, or if it's something else in the UX. It just happens more often that new users can't figure to get it to work.
