Coding is often a solitary endeavour. You spend long hours alone in your editor. Many of us also use a dark theme, which means you spend your nights staring into a black box, literally and figuratively.

I think it would be nice if there was some way to feel connected to the other Seneca Devs who are also working right now.

This is somewhat related to #1, but more passive. I'd like some way to be able to sense the collective effort of everyone programming. This could include:

  • stats on how many other people are also working right now. This could be a number, but could also be represented more visually somehow
  • stats on how many lines of code have been edited in the past hour, day, etc. It's nice to feel like you're part of something larger
  • somehow surfacing how many errors/failed builds/failed tests/etc are happening right now. "You aren't the only one who is stuck..."

@humphd Should we create a Figma file for this project and then update it regularly based on feedback?

We could, sure. I don't use Figma, but obviously others do. If you want to try that, go for it.

If I was doing this, I might also start with prior-art: which other extensions do something similar that we could build on/borrow as we prototype this?
