Students love to send me programming questions that include screenshots of their editor, code, or error messages. Every single time, it would be better if they actually send me the text.

With code, "text is worth a 1,000 pictures." You can search it, copy/paste it, edit it, etc.

I'd love to find a way to nudge people away from using images-of-text and toward plain text.

Oh my yes definitely this! Text is good but the thing I really want is a perma link into their repo with the code block high lighted... that is best as I can look elsewhere for problem if they misidentified where their problem is. Nothing drives me more crazy than screenshots of code (.. ok , actually a phone photograph of a screen with code is the only thing that is more maddening)
