Contacts created on iOS are added to the Automatically Collected group.
The current workaround is to open the web UI and move contacts from the Automatically Collected group to Default group. This is a minor inconvenience but may be confusing for people who hide the Automatically Collected group on iOS (i.e. this causes any newly added contacts to remain hidden).
Ideally we could hide the Automatically Collected group from macOS/iOS.

Actually for the MacOS client we already do that, see nextcloud/contacts#399 for problem description.
My impression was that iOS actually supported having multiple addressbooks though. Does it not actually support choosing what addressbook contacts go into?
(Will look into this when I get hands on an iDevice again. Maybe I should just buy a cheap one...)

I should have referenced #64. I meant that maybe the same solution could be used for iOS also.

Yes you can see and select different address book groups but have no ability to select in which group contacts are created, even when the group is deselected. It is indeed stupid and frustrating.
