A rtttl buzzer to make some noise.

I was not able to make sound with a RTTTL buzzer. Maybe because of this issue: esphome/issues#3925

Update: Related to this post the RTTTL buzzer works just fine. Because its easy to implement this is something we could easily include in v2.1 later this year.

Afterwards you have a new service in HA you can call: play_rtttl.

Why not a tiny speaker, if with the mic we can invoke an assistant with the mic, it could anwser with the tiny speaker.

Sure. But we have some problems there. First we need 3 more pins for I²S and also an external DAC. The internal has only 8bit and would result in very bad audio quality. But yes: I see the potential there.

Is there not the I2S peripheral on ESP32 ?
We could plug-in this kind of amplification to output sound, what do you think ?

Yes. This should work. If I find time I will play around with this.

It would be great if we could power the all thing from the 240V (in France for example) instead of using a 5V USB power adapter

Yes. This would be nice. But I'm not sure if we want this. Because of the potential risk of death while working with high voltages. I don't feel experienced enough for that :/

It would be difficult if not impossible to do this within the existing form factor and would potentially increase costs significantly. As @Schliggi indicated, there is also the safety aspect - mixing low voltage with utility-level line voltage on the same PCB is not something that should be undertaken without specific experience/education. In many jurisdictions (EU included) mains voltage devices require certification, and there are liability/insurance issues associated with using things that are not certified. I'm not trying to be negative - just pointing out adding a mains power supply is a non-trivial thing to do.

A lot of shelly devices for exemple are powered via 240V, and they are really tiny !
I didn't knew for the certifications, but aren't they only applicable to products that are sold, since this project is a DIY project, I don't know if these are mandatory.
But I see your point, it can and it is dangerous for a person without experience/education

Related to the suggestion from @Triskae I was thinking about Power over Ethernet as an option? I'm not sure how plausible it is as the board selection becomes quite limited and the fabricating of a case could also be quite tricky with a hot swap board in place. I suppose the main point here is mounting the sensor in the wall or on the ceiling.

There was a ceiling mount room sensor being developed but unfortunately I think they have shutdown as they were based in Ukraine and I can no longer find the link :-(

Great idea imo ! But what do you mean about the board selection ? @Schluggi designed the board from scratch, I think it could be possible to add an ethernet port on the board and extract power from it, it could also be used to wire the ESP inside, avoid Wi-Fi connection

I had gone down the route of ethernet being a part of the ESP32 breakout board like the Olimex POE ISO https://www.olimex.com/Products/IoT/ESP32/ESP32-POE-ISO/open-source-hardware, rather than adding it the custom board.

That's entirely because I would have no idea where to start 🤣

The other project (I want to say startup!) had added it to the single board where the ESP32 chip was also a part of the board rather than a bolt on.

PoE a good idea. We need to find a place on the board. But it's something I will have in mind for v2.1.

After some investigation I found PoE quiet complicated. It need some electronic to work (example board) and will not fit in the current form factor.

If someone wants to use PoE, please use a PoE splitter.
