How do I create a developer disk image on my own?

I accidentally updated my phone to ios 17.0 and now I can no longer use the app. I was wondering how the disk images could be built by myself so that I dont need to rely on an external repository that is not maintained by me.

You can not build the DeveloperDiskImages yourself. Apple builds them. You can download and install the latest XCode beta, which includes all recent DeveloperDiskImages. It might be easier for you to just search github for the DeveloperDiskImages of iOS 17, since the XCode download is quite large.

TLDR: Install Xcode, setup your device with Xcode, see if LocationSimulator is working. There is no single DeveloperDiskImage anymore in iOS 17 that you can find online or inside Xcode. It is not clear when or if iOS 17 will be supported by LocationSimulator without relying on Xcode.

Hi, I tried downloading the latest beta Xcode with support for ios 17.0 and built the LocationSimulator, but on launching the app it tried to download the diskimage from the repo configured and failed at that step. Is there a way to bypass this auto download step for the app?

Yes, you need to mount the Developer Disk Image with Xcode. It is not about building LocationSimulator with Xcode. It is about building some app (doesn't matter which) for your iPhone. Building and running an app on your iPhone will auto mount the developer disk image for you.

Afterwards you can start LocationSimulator and it should work without downloading anything.

You need to reapply those steps each time you reboot your iPhone.

Alternatively you can downgrade your iPhone to iOS 16.
