There's a setting for listing 'trusted ownCloud servers'.
I'm thinking even if the group is federated, a share still has a sender.
The group just facilitates the recipient selection.
So probably the mechanism for trusting remote ownCloud server should still trigger on the share owner?

Also, global lookup exists, where you can see remote users in your autocomplete.
