After choosing the profile and pressing the smiley face, the screen went dark and didn't respond.

The screenshot should make this report especially helpful. For FaceLogin bugs, please list the version of FaceLogin rather than of RoboTutor.
Bug Definitions says: "FREEZE (tablet ignores all input → must power-cycle / restart tablet)." Did you have to power-cycle the tablet, i.e. could not tap on the bottom-right square to bring up active apps and close RoboTutor?

I was able to press the square and close RT.
