Search bar not behaving es expected

Issues
The search bar does not behave in an expected way, when I enter a search term and hit enter, nothing happens.
How it seems to work is that when I enter a term about 5 pages with that term show up in a drop down, but if I click enter that goes away as well

Improvements
I would think hitting enter would bring me to a page which listed all of the search results

Additional discussion
The search also seems to be searching for pages that are either not current or not public.
For example when I search for "reducer" it shows me this page "https://www.opencilk.org/doc/reference/hyperobjects/" and the little blurb in the search results seem to indicate that their is content on the page, but I get a page that just shows

Content not found.
Go home.

Thanks for this report, @wheatman. With our static-site architecture, we rely on a third-party service, Algolia, to provide dynamic search functionality. I will look into the Algolia setup. I may not be able to resolve the enter-clicking, but the missing content seems like a definite problem. I'll let you know what I turn up. Thanks again.
