Obviously for apps bc_desktop, replacing the base app (bc_desktop base app doesn't/won't/can't work, it requires a subapp to actually work) is expected.
However, from the discourse user's use case - they have a base app is perfectly fine, but the subapp replaces it, which is not expected for them. It would seem that the user would need to re-create the base app as a subapp to get the actual functionality they want, but this seems over burdensome.
