Per the ReEDS v2019 documentation, a 2012 weather year is used for the generation of the hourly onshore wind profile data. Why was 2012 chosen? |

We selected the 2012 weather year based on looking at the spatial and temporal variability in wind and solar resource across the 2007-2013 period. We found that 2012 was the most representative year for wind across the dataset. It was a higher-than-normal solar year, but the solar variability was much less than the wind variability, so we opted for the 2012 year as the most representative of the 7 years. |
