The device will need to be updated with bug fixes and new features. Although it will be possible to update it by booting with the bootsel button pressed and then copying the updated .uf2 file onto the device, that process is not intuitive or easy for an average (non-developer) user to perform.

Look at 'src/rp2_common/pico_bootrom' and other SDK functionality to see if there is a more user-friendly way to perform an update.
