Just for a heads up: after upgrading from 3.1.6 to 3.1.7, I get very odd behavior in my application. It appears that various beans are no longer functioning, e.g. filter beans that are responsible in my app for setting up an MDC during a web request or for setting up a transactional context.

Switching back to 3.1.6 fixes the problem again. So it seems that whatever the changes from 3.1.6 to 3.1.7 are - they might not be only fixing bugs but actually introducing some. I'll try to figure out more and report.

Meanwhile: you might care not to upgrade to 3.1.7
