Description
The USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map is the standard by which gardeners and growers can determine which perennial plants are most likely to thrive at a location. The map is based on the average annual extreme minimum winter temperature, displayed as 10-degree F zones and 5-degree F half zones.
Plants are defined as having a range of hardiness zones, and the range, as best I can tell, is always contiguous. As an example, this desert mallow grows in hardiness zones 6-9 (which would include 6a, 6b, 7a, 7b, 8a, 8b, 9a, 9b).
Ideally, this would be a data field in a plant entry, as well as criteria that could be used to filter in plant search. There was a feature request to add this to trefle but I'm not sure if this ever happened.
