<p>Interns have the unique opportunity to work side by side an interdisciplinary team which includes a designer, researcher, developer, and project managers. The Long Beach i-team is committed to breaking down barriers to innovation in city government and work to address complicated and long standing problems such as economic development and access to city services. Interns have the opportunity to learn the Bloomberg Innovation methodology, user-centered design, get a taste for the changing face of local government, strengthen their qualitative skills, and make a real difference in the Long Beach community.</p>

<p><span class="profile-name">Melissa Begey</span> is one of our Civic Innovation Researchers. She is a cultural anthropologist who specializes in the complexity of sustainable fashion practices. Melissa recently completed an MA in Applied Anthropology at California State University, Long Beach. She also holds BA degrees in Economics and Anthropology from UCLA. Melissa is excited about the opportunity to bring ethnographic research methods to city government, and to integrate these methodologies with user-centered design thinking.</p>

<p><span class="profile-name">Danielle Castillo</span> is a Civic Innovation Researcher who specializes in individual to societal levels of identity construction. As a cultural anthropologist, she employs qualitative mixed-methods like ethnographic research and ethnographic film making. Through her discipline, she has developed a passion for fueling creative ways in instilling political, social and environmental change, with advocacy being her hobby. Danielle will soon receive a Master's Degree in Applied Anthropology from CSU Long Beach and has a Bachelors degree in Anthropology.</p>

<p><span class="profile-name">Christina Hernandez</span> is a Social Work Graduate Intern who specializes in structural practices through individual level insights. She is currently attending UCLA to earn her Master in Social Welfare degree. She also holds a BA degree from UCLA in Sociology and Chicana/o Studies with a minor in Labor and Workplace Studies. Her work inspires her to be a change catalyst for vulnerable communities through city government advocacy.</p>
