Gray tinted screen on AMD gpu #1337
Comments
I have a very similar, or the same issue since switching my streaming host from Arch Linux to Nobara (Fedora 38 base): Green artifact stuck at the top of the screen, heavy compression artifacts and loss of color over time. It resets after a disconnect and reconnect, however. GPU: RX 7900 XTX Something to do with the driver perhaps? |
@Destromite Have you tried turning off hardware accelerated decoding, or switching from HEVC to H.264? The isssue has disappeared since I did that. |
👋 @Destromite, It seems this issue hasn't had any activity in the past 90 days. If it's still something you'd like addressed, please let us know by leaving a comment. Otherwise, to help keep our backlog tidy, we'll be closing this issue in 10 days. Thanks! |
This is still an issue. |
I am having the same problem with an AMD GPU 6800XT |
Yes, same on 7900XTX, but it works fine using older [v0.19.1] for me. |
Please post logs from Sunshine and a screenshots of the bug. I can't reproduce this when streaming from either of my AMD machines (7900 XT and 6700 XT) using the latest 23.12.1 drivers. I've tried SDR, HDR, H.264, HEVC, and AV1 and none of them have this issue. |
Here are my logs and some screenshots of the issue. I took 2 screenshots for each scenario, one on the host device and another on the client device to compare. As you can see, the client images are washed out and all colors besides black are brighter than they should be. Sunshine Logs

Same here! on 6800 XT with amd driver 24.2.1 |
I have similar issue using hyper-v with 4070super. |

Still an issue... |
The Discord seems to indicate this happens either because HDR is enabled (windows settings on the host and/or Moonlight settings on the client) and/or because 10-bit color is enabled (GPU or OpenGL settings). Is there a way to support 10-bit color? https://discord.com/channels/804382334370578482/1116599939246604418 |
Can confirm this to be an issue in latest version, using an RX 6600. Will roll back to 0.19.1 for now. My monitor is not HDR capable and HDR is disabled in windows settings (allegedly). Same for moonlight settings. If there's anything I can provide to help, then I will do my best. |
I believe I've originally opened this issue. I haven't used moonlight since
because this hasn't been resolved but it's been amusing every month another
person comes and reports this issue for it to continue to be neglected

This color issue is non existent if I choose to use software encoding over
AMD AMF. I notice in logs when using software encoding, it is attempting
8bit color, but for AMD AMF i see 10bit color... which my monitor also does
not support.
If there's anything else I can provide to help, then I will do my best.

It's because nobody from the dev team can reproduce it, and many unrelated issues are all being reported here. I've run the exact configuration as OP except with a 7900 XT instead of an XTX and colors are perfect both in SDR and HDR modes. The only issue similar to this report that I've found is specifically with AV1 and the Vulkan renderer in Moonlight-Qt, which is due to an AMD driver bug (incorrect color range in encoded AV1 bitstream). However, this issue report predates the Vulkan renderer, so that cannot be the whole explanation. And also keep in mind that it looks like lots of people are experiencing it here, but the current Sunshine v0.23.1 build for Windows has been downloaded over 400,000 times as of this post. If the issue were really that widespread, we would see a lot more than ~6 people reporting it (the others in this thread look like a different bug). There has to be something we're missing here that explains why you all experience the issue and we don't. |
Is there an existing issue for this?
Is your issue described in the documentation?
Is your issue present in the nightly release?
Describe the Bug
I got a AMD gpu and stopped being able to use Nvidia Shield because of it. I tried sunshine tonight. It works well but i have a problem with it. When i connect like normal it all works like on a Nvidia gpu but my entire screen is tinted gray. It looks very bad. I can still see color but again everything is gray.
I installed the night version and its no different
