socks proxy stopped working with node 20 #108

I am currently trying to upgrade our setup with nodemailer and socks against an internal system from node 18 to node 20. It seems that since then mails cannot be sent through the proxy and I always receive the error message "Greeting never received". I tried a similar setup without the proxy and there it works, so I assume the issues lies in socks not nodemailer.

Any help would be appreciated.
