Description of the Modification
-------------------------------
This mod is a lot of other peoples work that has been put together and mixed
around and some new code has been added by me to make it work.
Impulse 100 creates a bot. There is no way to
get rid of the bots unless you kill it. They also
have control of themselves. These guys are pretty good if you have a
teamplay deathmatch team as they will attack an opposing player and his
bots.
Guided missiles are always available as long as you have some
rockets. They are controlled using left+right and the look up and
down keys or by holding your look button and using the mouse or cursor
keys. To access guided missiles simply press 7 and a prompt will say
"Regular missiles" or "Guided missiles", select the latter and fire
as normal. This uses rockets as normal. Guided missiles arent as fast or
as powerful as normal missiles (gotta make it fair). A glow surrounds a
player currently flying a missile, so no going to hide in the dark.
Guided missiles can use portals but not slipgates and can go through
lava, water and acid. And can still hit shootable buttons.
To kick a player or monster bind a key to "impulse 120".
The guardian minion is created with "impulse 15" and is a quad damage
symbol with noclip which follows you around and zaps any monsters (or other
players) that it sees. You need at least 40 cells to activate it and it then
depletes those 40 cells. It creates its own little cellammo pocket of 100
cells which it uses. When these cells are depleted the minion dissapears
To drop a pipe bomb use impulse 61 and to detonate them use impulse 62.
This uses rockets. There is also a range limit to the detonator so that you
can blow up various batches of pipe bombs. Your pipe bombs are detonated when
you die
To throw a tele-bomb use impulse 42, typing this again teleports you to the
location where the bomb landed and blowing the bomb up at the same time for
effect which isnt harmful to you unless you were standing very close by to
where the bomb landed but is harmful to anyone else nearby. All players and
monsters can be telefragged in this way. There is no range limit and no ammo
is used. Tele return spots can also be dropped using impulse 41, only one can
exist at a time, so making a new one deletes your old one, however these can
be used as often as you wish through typing impulse 43. No ammo is used and
there is no range limit.
To fire a firewall simply obtain a grenade launcher and select firewall mode
the missile will work like a normal grenade but before exploding will rise
up into the air then explode releasing a shower of grenades which blow up
close to the ground. This uses 5 rockets.
To lay a proximity mine simply obtain a grenade launcher and select proximity
mine mode then press fire a mine will be layed directly under you so keep
moving! The mines have 1.5 second arming delays, when they are armed they
will rise up into the air slightly then spin round. Anything coming close
will be blown apart with the power of 5 grenades!
Proximity mines can be disposed of by creating another explosion nearby,
therefore chain reactions can be achieved quite easily and diffusing them
is not a problem... If you se them in time!
This uses 5 grenades.
Shells are now ejected from the single and double barrel shotguns and very
effective they look too thanks to Bort, they also glow in the dark.
A hologram is available through impulse 99 it lasts 30 seconds and uses 30
cells.
Homing missiles are fired through selecting the rocket launcher and pressing
a key that has been assigned to impulse 22. These rockets dont travel as fast
as normal rockets, in fact they are not much faster than a players maximum
running speed. They take 5 rockets each, and whatta kick!
The grappling hook can be thrown through impulse 98 and withdrawn through
impulse 97, it is bound by default to the SPACE bar, to change this edit
flux.cfg and change the line 'bind SPACE "+hook"' to 'bind (yourkey) "+hook"'
To self destruct you must have 10% health or less and some rockets, the more
rockets you have, the bigger the explosion.Impulse 69 for kamikaze.
To use the ID-Globe bind a key to impulse 70, it shows the monster/player
name and weapon when the crosshair passes over them.
How to Install the Modification
-------------------------------
Make a new dir in your quake directory. (ie c:\quake\botnbits)
then copy my zip file into that directory and copy your .cfg's from
c:\quake\id1 into the same directory, pkunzip the file with the -d option
(this unzips all subdirectories as well, if you forget the -d option you will
have to make directories yourself and copy files by hand) i.e.
"pkunzip botnbits.zip -d".
Then run quake as follows:
quake -game botnbits (or whatever you called the directory)
Then bind keys to :-
--------------------
Impulse 100 - Spawn BGbot
Impulse 15 - Spawn Minion
Impulse 61 - Throw Pipe-Bomb
Impulse 62 - Detonate pipe bomb
Impulse 69 - Self destruct
Impulse 41 - Mark tele-return
Impulse 43 - Use tele-return
Impulse 42 - Throw/use Tele-Bomb
Impulse 70 - IDglobe toggle
Impulse 120 - Kick
Impulse 99 - Holograph
Guided missiles are accessed by pressing 7 twice.
Firewalls and Proximity mines are layed through using the grenade launcher.
Impulse 22 - Homing missile
Impulse 98 - Throw Grap hook
Impulse 97 - Withdraw Grap hook
Grappling hook is bound to SPACE by default
Qwirks/Bugs:-
-------------
Note:-There arent as many bugs as it looks.
Guided missiles come out of portals facing the way they went in, ignoring
turnarounds. This resullts in missiles sometimes crashing straight into walls.
Using guided missiles results in you becoming the missile temporarily, therefore
if you have a minion activated the minion will kill the real you because it now
thinks that you are the enemy. This does have its advantages though as the
minion now follows your missile around. If you collect a pentagram then create a
minion and fire a guided missile the minion will not be able to kill you and
will follow your missile. Circle your missile near other monsters or players and
the minion will dispose of them. (Phew!)
Power-ups such as the PoP and the quad damage do not end if you are in guided
missile mode.
Sometimes a telebomb will land in a small space or close to a wall, if you
teleport you will become stuck, but quake will unstick you by teleporting you
back to whence you came from.
If a telebomb lands in lava or acid, you may not want to teleport...
Any kills that the minion makes arent added to your score, this isnt really a
bug, I just didn't incorporate this because the minion is more of a security
device than anything and if it did add to your score the player(s) with minions
activated would have an unfair advantage.
If you are playing one player or coop, teamplay needs to be set if you intend
on using the minion and bgbot together, otherwise the minion gets jealous and
eliminates the innocent bgbot.
