I would like the issue tracker turned on!

Just to note that our current inability to discuss issues can be addressed in the short-term via discussion of this PR.

To the maintainers, thanks for creating this app and sharing the code. Just curious why Android's minimum SDK version is 23? Should we be trying to target users from 21 and up?

My understanding is that the underlying API needed for this app is only in version 23 and above.

I'm going to take sftcd's advice and use this as a temporary issue-tracker:

This app really, really needs a daily notification to remind people to update their symptoms. Usage appears to have fallen off in the past few days, and this app is only really going to useful with high adoption (it has this) and high retention (which it's quickly losing).

Given that this missing feature has an actual, literal, death toll, can you please add it, right now?

@rgrannel1 the app is designed specifically to be non invasive, free of all those gamification slot machine tactics. The important thing is the app is installed. Set and forget.

@sligokid does this app work fully without a large number of check-ins? I understand this app needed to be non-invasive to be widely adopted, but of course the most important thing is to reduce nationwide COVID rates.

@rgrannel1 Yes, the app begins working in the background as soon as it is installed and Bluetooth is on. The checkins are just a nice reporting feature but it has no bearing on the primary business of the app which is to log any interactions anonymously in case one of them is later identified as a covid case, so contact tracing team can alert those anonymously.

Fair enough. My impression was check-ins were a primary feature of the app, due to the majority of people who contract COVID but do not get formally tested and diagnosed

The version on the app store is now 1.0.1 citing "Minor bug fixes and text corrections".

When will we see these changes reflected in this repo?

Just a quick comment on the issue tracker... while the HSE will continue to maintain this repo and project as an image of the deployed application, the project itself has been contributed to the Linux Foundation Public Health organization as "COVID Green" located here: https://github.com/covidgreen. The issue tracker there is enabled and would the ideal place to open issues and discuss topics that are general to the base application. Anything that is specific to the Ireland CovidTracker instance should continue to be discussed here.

That's a good question :-) ... let me check in with the team on that.

The whole process there is being worked through as a lot of this is evolving extremely quickly, but the differentiation is that COVID Green is intended to be (or become) the generic base of the application whereas this is the Ireland-specific adaptation. That distinction is not yet fully realized or meaningful yet as we're still working through the bootstrapping in parallel to the team actually doing the technical work. That'll take a bit of time (consider this to be our "Excuse our Remodeling" sign 😆 )
